FURTHER ACTION.

(a)

Dear Scott,

Thank you for your letter

of the 29th July regarding the

evacuation of British women from

Iqnclyse a copy of our telegem to the Governor Hong Kong. The Governor explained

AP

in his telegram of the 16th July

that the stationing of police on

the gangways of passenger vessels

had so far proved effective to

prevent illegal entry of such women, but

and you will recall that the case

under discussion in the Governor's

telegram was concerned with women

who had been allowed to enter the

Colony on temporary visas, and

refuse to leave again on the expiry

of their visas. We are asking the

Governor to take all steps he can

to prevent the recurrence of such

stances

incidents, but we doubt very much

omething that legislation on the lines whil the advisability of you suggest,

we

mus/-

avoid

wy be either e
